Armchair TV

1984

This was the very first holographic artwork I made. Around 1983 or 1984. It is a rough-and-ready sketch, but the idea is still interesting. The object in the hologram was a 3" high ceramic armchair bought at a thrift store. Perhaps it was originally made as a sort of ornament to sit on a mantle piece in suburbia?

By folding the hologram into a TV shape, parts of the armchair could be seen on every face of the TV.  Trapped in a box like a contortionist. An observer trapped within the observed.
